Kindo Privacy Statement
Your Data and Our Promise
The purpose of our website is to make it possible and easy for you share information with your family. To enable this to happen there will obviously need to be some sharing of your personal data. However, we fully respect that your data is precious to you and want to assure you that any sharing will be under your control and managed carefully by us.
This statement, which represents our policy on the privacy of your data, sets out the rules. We hope you will be clear about things when you have read it, but if you would like any further assurance please contact us at hello@kindo.com.
So, let’s start with the general idea:
We follow a set of simple principles for how we treat the information you give us.
1. Family only: Only the people in your family tree can see your tree and information you put in the tree (such as your profile information). The public cannot access this data.
2. No spamming: We will never spam you or any of your family members. We will send a reminder to a family member who haven’t replied to your invitation. We will also send you newsletters and other notifications to your email address, but if you don’t like this you’ll be able to change your settings. If you don’t want any more emails from us, you can also drop us a line hello@kindo.com.
3. Everything stays with Kindo: We will never sell or rent your personal information to advertisers or other third parties. Your data is safe with us.
4. Cookies are good for you: We use cookies, since they make it easier for you to use Kindo. Cookies are basically small text files that are stored on your computer. More specifically, we use session ID cookies to keep track of your data while you’re logged in, and persistent cookies, which makes it easy to log back in to Kindo. We would just mention that if you decide to delete cookies in your computer, it might affect the use of our site and, in some cases, prevent access to certain aspects of it.
Now, let’s look in more detail at how this will work:
When you decide to visit our site for the first time, we collect certain information you choose to give us, such as your name and address and other contact details, and then the other details you choose to put on your family tree, such as photos,. We collect this information so that we can provide you with Kindo’s different features. When you register with Kindo, your profile information, as well as your name, email and photo, are displayed to people in your family.
We also automatically collect and save the information your browser sends to us, such as type of browser, browser version, operating system, referrer URL, which will be used anonymously for research.
Information Sharing
While the nature of our business is to share information between like-minded people, that is as far as it goes. We give you our clear promise that, except for the purposes associated with the building of your family tree, we repeat what we said above which is that we shall not share identifiable information you provide to us with any other party without your permission.
In order for us to show you relevant advertising and other offerings, we may aggregate user information in a non-identifiable manner and share IT with advertisers.
Third-party ad servers or ad networks (such as Google Adsense) also serve advertisements on Kindo, and these third-party ad servers or ad networks use other technologies to to personalize the advertising content. We don’t provide any identifiable information to these third-party ad networks without your consent.
Anonymized data may also be used for statistics, quality assurance or market research purposes.
The only exception to the statement above is where we have a legal obligation to provide information, e.g. in connection with fraud detection, but in that case will provide only the information strictly required for the purpose.
Security
We have an obligation at law to keep your information as secure as possible, and we have taken steps to ensure, so far as it is possible to do so that this duty will be fully maintained. However, we have no control over the security of email communications and would strongly recommend that you do not communicate information which you wish to remain secure by this means.
Links to Other Sites
Our site might, from time to time, provide links to sites of other parties which might be of interest to you (such as our Merchandise shop, and the affiliate partners listed on Kindo’s gifts page). Remember that we do not have any control or influence over these sites and will not be responsible for what they do. So do check their terms before using them.
